meet the pippens

the book bus adventure

The Pippen family lives for adventures, always searching for new opportunities to explore their community and beyond! For over a decade, Michael and Lynsey have celebrated their wedding anniversary by traveling to a different state each year, terming it “50 states in 50 years.” During these trips, both rural and urban, they have found themselves making spontaneous stops at local independent bookstores. At the time of their Kansas 2020 trip, they realized that a bookshop stop is not something that is likely to happen during their daily routines at home because of the time it takes to find “just the right book” in a large bookstore. This is when the book bus dream started brewing and Michael had the idea to start small and mobile. The plan developed into offering curated new and used selections to match the customer with the book they didn’t know they needed in a short amount of time while still enjoying the local bookstore experience.

michael

Co-Founder and President

Michael, a native of Tallulah, Louisiana, serves as the guy behind the scenes for LBB. On weekdays, he continues his full-time position as Director of Business Development for a global irrigation manufacturer and enjoys frequent business travel across the country. As a Mechanical Engineer by trade, Michael is the head handyman around the Pippen house and you can often catch him hard at work on a renovation project. He relishes Saturday afternoons manning the grill while watching college football. Michael is the logical-thinker of the family and says his primary job with LBB is the most uninteresting, but important tasks of lifting boxes and paying the bills.

lynsey

Co-Founder and chief content officer

Lynsey, a native of Houma, Louisiana, serves as the head organizer and reading researcher for LBB. A Speech Therapist and Special Educator by trade, she continues consulting work and blog writing (thinkloudlife.com) on weekdays. Lynsey enjoys hosting themed parties when the need arises and loves planning family adventures. You can often find the Pippen’s hiking, kayaking, camping, exploring a theme park, or taking a road trip back home to Cajun country. She’s the visionary of the family and says her primary job with LBB is to network within the community and keep the shop content relevant to our customers.

luke

Co-Founder and operations manager

Luke,  a student at Sparrow Academy, enjoys playing piano and anything having to do with music, costumes, and theater. While the shyest of the Pippen bunch, you’ll often see Luke wearing one of his hat creations. You’ll catch Luke helping with the heavy lifting around the shop. However, he’s our family foodie and says his primary job with LBB is to make sure all employees are happy and fed!

nolan

Co-Founder and communications director

Nolan, also a student at Sparrow Academy, has a vast array of interests. Whether choreographing his own musical productions, snail hunting, or exploring the mechanics of motors, you’ll often find him in the spotlight. You’ll probably see Nolan as junior cashier for the shop.  He’s the social butterfly of the family and says his primary job with LBB is to make sure that our customers get the attention they deserve!
